The radio crackles, and through the white noise emerges a dire warning: “The last rescue team will be arriving in the Lost City for the remaining survivors after 45 minutes, please go to the center of Lost City to assemble.” There’s just one problem: You and your colleagues are locked in room while a crowd of hungry zombies waits outside. That’s the scene created by Lost Canada’s “The Return of Nemesis,” one of several themed escape rooms that take elements from films and video games, then bring them into a reality where cheat codes don’t work. The “Aching Time of Pi” room focuses on the illusion of time and various clocks, the unnerving “Royal Cemetery” room filters strange noises throughout the tombs and mounds, while ‘The Gallery Codex” works both sides of your brain by weaving artistic mysteries in with logic problems.
The various scenarios lock players in prisons, cemeteries, and other settings, all filled with clues and puzzles. These elements to escape could be hidden anywhere as the 45-minute time limit ticks closer and closer to zero. The teams, ranging from 2 to 12 players, must work together communicating and observing their surroundings to escape the room. The site boasts more than 4,000 square feet and the pre-determined themed rooms use special effects made in-house that includes sensors, motion detectors, infrared lights, and more.
