The Music: Camille Saint-Saëns’ symphony combines virtuosic piano passages with the thundering presence of a cathedral-size pipe organ, marching to a dramatic finale. The program also includes Elegia eroica, a towering work by composer Alfredo Casella.
The Conductor: Acclaimed Italian maestro Gianandrea Noseda, who was recently appointed music director of the National Symphony Orchestra, directs the musical proceedings.
Special Guests: Pianist Stefano Bollani delivers a delightful rendition of Ravel’s glittering Piano Concerto in G, while Patricia Krueger plays the massive pipe organ.
