The first Canadian Open took place in 1904. It featured 36 holes spread across a single day, and the winner, John H. Oke, took home $60 as his reward. In the century since that first Open, some of golf’s most-iconic players have claimed the tournament’s crown, including Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods. In fact, at this tournament in 2000, a young Woods achieved one of the greatest shots ever when he chipped a shot out of the fairway bunker on the 72nd hole. He went on to win by a single stroke.
That memorable finish took place at Glen Abbey Golf Club, which will host the Open for a record 27th time this year. As the first-ever solo design of the legendary Jack Nicklaus, Glen Abbey’s course has tradition to spare, and its overall layout caters to fans with excellent views and amenities, including plenty of concession stands. The property will buzz as the tournament unfolds throughout the week of July 20 leading up to the close of play on July 26, at which point the tournament’s winner will receive the RBC Canadian Open trophy and can fill it with all the peanut M&Ms he wants.
