$25 for $50 Worth of Italian Cuisine
In addition to ravioli with aged ricotta and Sicilian pesto ($19), the menu includes roasted free-range chicken ($22) and an immense list of international wines ($8+/glass). This deal is only valid Sunday–Thursday.
Blending traditional Italian recipes with modern decor, Ciao Wine Bar creates an ambience that Fodor’s called “swanky, yet soulful.” Platters of house-made pastas can emerge topped with a bounty of seasonal vegetables or one of the kitchen’s creamy or tomato-based sauces. Behind an alabaster bar, the chefs stretch and toss pizza dough before layering the pies with such premium toppings as prosciutto, fresh pears, or smoked salmon. Although the extensive wine list emphasizes crisp whites and unctuous reds from vineyards throughout Italy, servers also fill glasses with a small collection of Canadian wines and critically acclaimed juice boxes.
Before they even see a menu, diners pick a table on one of three seating levels, each with its own distinct atmosphere. A glass half wall and recessed ceiling lights lend a contemporary air to the mezzanine, and the ground floor’s windows invite people-watching on Yorkville Avenue. On the lower level, arching brick columns and unvarnished wooden tables help create a rustic ambience without leaving guests to whittle their own utensils from the ornamental wine racks.
