As the strains of hits such as “Benny and the Jets” and “Rocket Man” begin, dancers leap and strut across the stage, commemorating the music and life of Sir Elton John with spectacular modern choreography and cheeky costumes. Presented by David Mirvish, the ballet explores the triumphs and foibles of super-stardom, from playing sold out concerts to accidentally stepping on a tiny dancer. Dazzling dance numbers, performed atop spinning turntables or in front of stunning backdrops, accompany 14 of Elton John’s hits. Clad in crowns and robes, principals twirl onstage among aerialists and spark-throwing roller-skaters. With an emphasis on love, passion, and disproving Sir Isaac Newton, the show celebrates the fresh rock ‘n’ roll hits and touching medleys that have danced time and time again across the pianist’s keys.
Since 1960, the Sony Centre has served as Canada’s largest soft-seat theatre space for an assortment of performances and shows. The centre recently opened after renovation and now provides patrons with restored wood, brass, and marble as well as new washrooms, upgraded seating and flooring, and complimentary oxygen.
