The Scouting Report
Helmed by the Italian player Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC is poised to make a strong postseason run. A little extra breathing room in the standings never hurts, though. This pair of August games gives the club an opportunity to solidify its position in the Eastern Conference, and perhaps send a message to potential rivals out west and in outer space. And the odds look good for Toronto—the team lit up Orlando City SC 4–1 earlier this month, and has won two of three against Montreal this season.

Though the Toronto FC franchise is young, especially compared to European clubs, the Reds have found success in Canada, winning the Amway Canadian Championship four years in a row from 2009 through 2012. Toronto FC’s staff and athletes set out to do more than just compete against rival MLS clubs; they help the sport grow. Players and coaches both can be found teaching young athletes the ins and outs of competitive play in grassroots events and programs.
