Anyone who has attended a dance festival in Peru, Bermuda, or New York, or who has caught a performance by Peru Danza, Son Atento Band, or Danca Brasil, may have already seen Soraya Lozano cut a rug. The multi-genre dancer and choreographer boasts expertise in everything from cha cha and salsa to meringue and bachata, all of which she teaches to students within her studio. Using detailed instruction and a supportive approachability she coaxes even new students through Afro Peruvian dance, dancehall, and Brazilian samba. And if those students find themselves particularly inspired, she also hosts choreography classes where they can learn the fundamentals of creating a belly-dance or hip-hop routine. Although many opt to learn in social-style groups, Soraya also holds private lessons for those who want more individual attention or can’t stop shouting their secrets aloud.
