Wanda’s Waffles is a series of waffle houses in Toronto with a one-man four-waffle machine window so the saccharine scent wafts into the city air. Their recipes are authentic and straight from Belgium, brought in by the owner himself, Robert Ayoub. Ayoub insists on keeping his shops elegant but simple; without television, newspapers or Wi-Fi connection like most cafes offer. But he doesn’t skimp or cut corners on ingredients because “people in Toronto can tell the difference.” He imports pearl sugar and chocolate from Belgium, teamed up with Breyer’s ice cream and fresh fruit toppings purchased daily. Ayoub also offers beverages, Panini sandwiches and ice cream cones for all of those guests without a sweet tooth. By day, families stroll in for waffle cones, friends share waffles topped with ice cream and fresh fruits and by night, late-night partiers create a winding line outside the downtown locations for a warm sugar rush or a chicken Panini. Making waffles fresh to each order is the key to success, Ayoub believes; let him share the magic of Belgium with you too.
