As the American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Marlies continue their quest for Calder Cup glory as they glide into the Western Conference Finals for the second time in five years. To get there, the talented squad of ice-slicers froze the Abbotsford Heat with skilled playmaking and chilling stare-downs en route to a convincing 4-1 series victory. Western Conference all-star Ryan Hamilton continues to headline the team’s offensive ensemble with whistling slap shots rifled from his gasoline-powered stick, and wingman Jerry D’Amigo emerged as a second-round star by amassing six goals and three assists in five games. Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner joins the AHL squad for its playoff run, mentoring a group of youngsters that includes goalie Ben Scrivens—who stopped 147 of 154 shots in the semis—and his imaginary friend, left-winger Marcel Mueller.
