As the American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Marlies continue their quest for Calder Cup glory as they glide into the opening round of the playoffs against the Rochester Amerks. During the 76-game regular season, the talented squad of ice slicers subdued opponents with skilled playmaking and chilling stare-downs en route to a first place seat atop the North Division. Western Conference all-star Ryan Hamilton headlines the team’s offensive ensemble with whistling slap shots rifled from his gasoline-powered stick, and centre Mike Zigomanis finished the regular season among the league’s most prolific scorers with 61 points, including 42 assists. Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner joins the AHL squad for its playoff run, mentoring a group of young stars that includes goalie Ben Scrivens and his imaginary friend, left-winger Marcel Mueller.
