Today’s Groupon: for $9, you get one full-day admission ticket to Safari Niagara’s zoo and recreational grounds in Stevensville (up to a $20.91 value). Through September 5, Safari Niagara is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From September 6 through October 2, the grounds are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Safari Niagra is closed October 3 through October 7, and then reopens October 8 through October 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. After October 10, it’s closed for the season.
With more than 400 species inhabiting its colourful animal kingdom, Safari Niagara enchants visitors with interactive presentations, free guided tours, and a dynamic roster of recreational activities. Wildlife voyeurs can relish the majesty of African lions, black bears, and snow leopards while navigating the 100-acre sanctuary of lairs, dens, and banana-tree condos or can admire the dexterity of a troop of spider monkeys in the arboured primate palace. During a live feeding demonstration administered by professional zoologists, visitors can observe the eating habits and dinner etiquette of giraffes and hippopotamuses, such as cleaning their mugs with moist towelettes or sharpening their chopsticks with ivory canine teeth. Safari Niagara also enlightens naturalists on the ways of the winged at the Wonders of Flight exposition and encourages two-legged guests to explore Papa Steve’s Family Farm and its miniature barn, teeming with wee livestock and petri-dish water bowls.
After sampling Safari’s furry and feathered personalities, visitors can inspect aquatic schools at the catch-and-release fishing program in the black bass and sunfish pond or enlist a rental paddleboat to usher them through the depths. For visiting youngsters, the 10-inch-deep Safari Splash Pad water playground sprinkles refreshing droplets through rainbow misters and squirting teeter-totters for the whole family’s enjoyment. Children under three are admitted for free.
