Today’s Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of New Orleans cuisine at Southern Accent in Mirvish Village.
Southern Accent aims to recreate the spirit and flavours of New Orleans, serving up a spicy, soulful menu of Cajun- and Creole-inspired creations from a converted Victorian townhouse brimming with Louisiana music styles and the Big Easy’s eclectic aesthetic. Diners with Southern cravings can prime their palates with blackened chicken livers seared in a cast-iron pan with fresh lemon butter ($9) or dive right into main course offerings, such as Dauphine Street cracker catfish, a farm-raised, jazz-trained fillet fried with a crispy coating of crackers and spice, served with pickled-jalapeño tartar sauce, rice pilaf, and seared collard greens ($19). The Canal Street Creole jambalaya can quell carnivorous cravings with its combination of blackened chicken tenders, andouille sausage, and grilled garlic tiger shrimp seasoned with Creole sauce ($18). Diners can top off their gastronomic tours of the bayou with an order of N’awlins bread pudding festooned with apples, pecans, raisins, and bourbon sauce ($8), or forgo all but the latter with a Jim Beam bourbon sour from the 1940s-style bar ($10). Mixologists can also prepare several other classic Louisiana cocktails, including hurricanes ($8) and sazeracs, made with rye accompanied by Peychaud’s and Angostura bitters, syrup, a hint of Pernod, and a single, 16-carat Mardi Gras bead ($8).
